Swing & Soul Line Dance
Posted by: Peter Strom on Friday, October 17, 2008 - 06:38 PM
Admin Announcements Hey all check it out, for Swing & Soul this year I made up a line dance and I am going to post it on the Swing & Soul website so folks can learn it before the event if they want so they can bust it out with confidence at Swing & Soul (and anywhere else they feel like it). It's called "Give it to Me" and it goes to Rick James's jam, "Give it to Me Baby." Check out the first chunk here (please excuse my terrible video skills):

http://swingandsoul.com/index.html

There are two more parts and I will post a new part each Friday for the next 2 weeks. Enjoy the dance! I hope to see all of you in Atlanta this year!

FOLLOWS REG for JOTJ CLOSED! ZOE WHITTAKER ADDED TO DJ STAFF!
Posted by: emily_wm on Saturday, October 04, 2008 - 06:26 AM
Admin Announcements REGISTRATION CLOSED FOR FOLLOWS IN BOTH TRACKS!

ONLY A FEW LEAD SPOTS LEFT IN BOTH TRACKS!

ZOE WHITTAKER ADDED TO JAMMIN' DJ STAFF!

Lots of folks decided to take advantage of the early bird prices, and really, who could blame them! As a result we have reached our limit on the number of follows for both the beginner and intermediate tracks. If you would like to be placed on our waiting list, please send an email to registration@jamminonthejames.com and you will be notified if there are any cancellations.

On the lead side of registration, there are only a few slots left in both tracks. It is seemingly likely that registration for leads will close as well. SO ACT NOW!

We are also pround to announce that Zoe Whittaker (Charlotte, NC) has signed on to our DJ staff. She's been has been dancing, performing & instructing Lindy Hop for over seven years. Some of her professional experiences include teaching and performing blues dance at Herräng Dance Camp in Sweden, teaching connection classes at Lindy Focus III (Asheville, NC), and working as a dance consultant on the set of movie "Leatherheads" and directing two years of Orton Academy's Swing & Jazz program (Asheville, NC). Having attended Jammin' in past years as a registrant, we're excited to welcome Zoe to the Jammin' staff this year!

DJ Glenn Scales (DC) will provide tunes during the weekend for your dancing enjoyment. Is this guy qualified you ask? Jammin' on the James! Oct 17-19th 2008, Richmond VA
Posted by: emily_wm on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 06:45 AM
Admin Announcements This year (our sixth) we offer something familiar and something new. The familiar is that we have the return of Naomi Uyama and Mike Faltesek as instructors. The new is that this year we are excited to welcome for the first time Nina Gilkenson and Peter Strom! All four will team up to teach our intermediate and beginner tracks. That's right, we have the return of the beginner track for the those new to lindy and those who may still be unsure if they're ready to move to an intermediate level class. In an effort to let the beginners absorb as much as possible, we're keeping the class sizes small and only having two classes each day. And the beginners will benefit from the instruction of the same world class instructors who are teaching the intermediate classes!

Once again we are putting the focus on our local musical talent at our dances. Jammin' favorites, Gypsy Roots (Hot Club of France-style hot jazz) make a return appearance as does Swiss Swank Account, although this year we're going with a small group (sextet) version as a change of pace. And of course we wrap up the weekend with the trad jazz sounds of the Doctors of Jazz. Plus the popular late night dances with quality DJs (TBA), free refreshments to keep you going, and some downright nice and friendly dancers from all over!

The weekend schedule and instructor bios are up on the website. Workshop descriptions will be posted soon and registration will open sometime in late August. Please save the date and join us!
